Today marks a huge milestone for Millennial Media as we unveil something we’ve been working on for quite a while now — mmSDK 6.0. This software upgrade is our most comprehensive offering to date and a tremendous achievement by our team. mmSDK 6.0 offers new, innovative ad formats for advertisers and more monetization opportunities for publishers than ever before.
The upgrade includes new options for video and native ad units, two of the most engaging types of ads in the mobile ecosystem today. We’ve studied the industry and put many hours of thought and attention into providing both publishers and advertisers with the strongest options possible to drive revenue and boost engagement, including:
- Lightbox: This innovative new autoplay video ad unit that uses swipe, touch, and sound to interact with the video player. Once touched, the video expands. The video’s companion banner also provides an additional opportunity to get your message across. It also opens up new premium revenue opportunities for publishers who have previously been unable to run video.
- Interstitial Vertical Video: We enriched our Interstitial Video Ads (Video Plus) with full-screen vertical HD video, interactive animated buttons, and rich media elements.
- Native Placements: Publishers can receive units through an industry-standard in-feed layout or a customized native placement made to fit a publisher’s own app design. For additional revenue opportunities, we’ve made Facebook native ads available through mediation too.
- Add to Calendar Enhancements: This fun unit creates a calendar event in the device’s native calendar. The user can set an alarm for a particular sale or offering, or create a recurring event in his calendar. We can also track these metrics, which can be used for future retargeting.
So that’s the “what” of mmSDK 6.0, but I’d be remiss if I didn’t tell you a bit more about the “how.” We completely overhauled our SDK architecture with this upgrade. Its brand new built-from-the-bottom-up modular build allows us to bring new features and functionality to our partners more quickly and more simply than ever before.
Our SDK is already embedded in more than 65,000 apps and sites. mmSDK 6.0 allows publishers to monetize their sites and apps through all mobile demand sources, including the Millennial Media Exchange, publisher-direct sold campaigns, and publisher and network mediation partners.
